My tips for deal with homesickness


The holiday season is well upon us and it's my first time ever spending it away from my family on the other side of the world. I have so many thoughts in my head about it. I've been traveling around for more than 3 years now so I'm quite used to being away from home but this time because everything is filled with Christmas advertisements portraying families and friends so I'm feeling the absence of it a little more. I wanted to share some of my tips and activities that help me to soothe myself when
 feeling homesick this time of the year.



1. Spend time with other people
I'm quite an introverted person which doesn't help at all when you're already feeling homesick. It's really important to remind yourself these times that nice people are everywhere and you can build a meaningful, great connection the new people no matter where you are in the world.
2. Do the things you always do when you're home
Or make your favorite dishes from home. Especially when you're really far away from home like me right now, it's not the easiest thing to find your favorite products from your home country but these days international supermarkets do have them if you really look into it.
4. Schedule talks with your family/friends
Because everybody is so busy this time of the year it can really help to schedule your phone talks and face times in advance with your loved ones to make sure you get to catch up. For me this is the thing that helps the most and I’m so happy that the technology today allows us talk to our family even if we’re on the other side of the world.
5. Find your happy place
We all have those things that just instantly shift our mood and put us into a better feeling place. For me it's either running, taking a walk outside, watching a good tv series or studying about something I'm very interested in. These kind of things are not only good for distraction but when you do the things that make you happy you’re not going to wish you were somewhere else anyways.
